Description

Embroidery is considered to be part of tradition and culture in many corners of the world. Each country or culture differs in the way it represents its embroidery pieces, and in the way it is decorated, made and used. Palestinian Embroidery is unique and is recognized among other embroideries for its vibrant colors and impeccable designs as well as for its cultural and social meaning.

The “Very Palestinian Box” itself is a representation of this tradition and culture, as it is a wooden box covered in traditional Palestinian embroidery. Within its heart, you will find two small ceramic plates, hand-painted by the women of Hebron. We cannot have a complete culture without items handcrafted from the all-resistant olive tree. A map of all the main cities in Palestine is hand-painted on a small piece of olive wood in the shape of the country itself. It’s a perfect way to keep the cities taken from the Palestinians memorized and etched onto our hearts and minds. Another keychain of the dome of the rock and a small Palestinian flag pin accompany the map to complete the branding of Palestine in our memory. A small bottle of olive oil and two burlap sacks containing sage and thyme serve as a statement ‘the fruits of our country will never be forgotten’. Palestinian embroidery expanded from a traditional craft practiced in the villages to a cultural expression of the Palestinian identity.

The ‘Very Palestinian Box’ contains:

  • Extra virgin Palestinian Olive Oil harvested and produced in Hebron.
  • Zaa’tar (Thyme).
  • Merameya (Common sage)
  • 2 Ceramic Plates Bowls
  • Olive Oil Soap Bar produced in Nablus
  • Palestinian Map hanging/keychain produced from olive wood in Bethlehem.
  • Wooden Box with embroidery art on top.

About Embroidery Palestinian
Palestinian embroidery, known as "tatreez," is a vibrant and intricate traditional art form that has been passed down through generations of Palestinian women. Using colorful threads, artisans create stunning geometric and floral patterns on dresses, scarves, and other textiles. Each region in Palestine has its own distinct designs and motifs, often reflecting local identity and heritage. For example, the red and black patterns of Hebron differ from the bright colors of Ramallah or the cross-stitch designs of Bethlehem. More than just decoration, tatreez symbolizes Palestinian culture, resilience, and pride, especially as it has become a powerful symbol of solidarity and resistance. Today, this ancient craft continues to thrive, blending tradition with contemporary fashion while preserving a rich cultural legacy.Palestinian ceramic art, especially from Hebron (Al-Khalil), is a celebrated tradition rooted in thousands of years of history. Known for its durability and exquisite craftsmanship, Hebron’s ceramic ware is made from locally sourced clay, shaped by hand or wheel, and fired in wood-burning kilns using methods passed down through generations. The city’s artisans are famous for their striking blue and green glazes, often embellished with traditional motifs like olive branches, geometric patterns, and Arabic calligraphy. From decorative tiles and bowls to functional cookware, each piece reflects Palestine’s cultural heritage and artistic ingenuity. Despite modern challenges, Hebron’s ceramic industry remains a testament to Palestinian resilience.
